How to do it:

  1. Cancel and Delete your Amazon account.

  2. Stop shopping at Whole Foods.

  3. Support these local businesses instead!

  4. Stop Amazon from building a warehouse in Eugene. Read below.

Amazon is building a mega-warehouse in Eugene.

Amazon is secretly pushing forward plans to build a massive warehouse in Eugene, as they have done in many other cities. Non-disclosure agreements allow developers to hide the company’s name until the last minute.

Amazon promises warehouse jobs, but those jobs will soon be largely or entirely replaced by AI and robotics as Amazon moves quickly toward its goal of full automation.

  • They have gone from 100,000 warehouse robots in 2017 to 1,000,000 in 2025, with plans for rapid further automation (Source: Wall Street Journal). At this point, they employ as many robots as warehouse workers (Source: Entrepreneur).

  • In 2019, Amazon’s director of robotics fulfillment projected that Amazon warehouses would by fully, end-to-end automated by 2030 at the very earliest (Source: Reuters, with an outdated headline).

  • Amazon is investing in robotics factories which are capable of building 10,000 worker-replacing robots per year. One such factory has already been built in Salem (Source: NBC News, factory tour and interview).

As Amazon reaches full automation, our city will bear the brunt of their environmental impact, and the resulting rise in electricity costs, without benefitting from new jobs.

Why Amazon and Jeff Bezos?

The Amazon family of companies as a whole, and Jeff Bezos in particular, present a special kind of threat to American democracy. While billionaires and corporations in general are guilty of similar things, Bezos and Amazon are some of the worst offenders:

  • Amazon is complicit in Israeli genocide in Gaza, with a $1.2 billion contract to provide cloud technology to the Israeli government and military.

  • Amazon is a prime driver of ICE's deportation actions by providing ICE with data storage services. Amazon has helped expand the growth of ICE's surveillance, data accumulation, arrest, imprisonment, and deportation of immigrants, and ICE can't do its job without the infrastructure support Amazon and other tech firms provide (See more info here).

  • Bezos donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund and attended his inauguration along with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. He is doing everything he can to empower and gain favor with this fascist regime.

  • Bezos personally owns the Washington Post and has made efforts to align the newspaper’s editorial stance with pro-Trump views, in opposition to the paper’s storied history of anti-corruption investigative reporting.

  • Amazon has been repeatedly criticized for poor working conditions, intense surveillance of its employees and service users, and union-busting tactics.

  • Despite his union-busting, Bezos himself makes $8,000,000 per hour while paying his warehouse workers an average of $20.07/hour - a hardly livable wage, considering the grueling nature of the job.

  • Amazon spends heavily on lobbying in order to secure tax breaks, subsidies, and avoidance of antitrust enforcement. They are some of the worst offenders when it comes to abusing the power of the corporate state.
